Anusara means
"flowing with grace," "going with the flow or following your
heart."
Founded by John Friend in
1997, Anusara is one of the fastest growing hatha yoga systems. It
combines precise Universal Principles
of Alignment with a non-dual Eastern Philosophy (prakrti-nature and purusa-spirit
are seen as one) that recognizes and honors the
totality of each being. Students are acknowledged as vessels of Supreme consciousness,
where (through their practice) body, mind and spirit merge as expressions
of one's divine nature in a playful
celebration of the heart.
The practice of Anusara Yoga can be quite gentle
or more vigorous as there are different levels of instruction, however, the focus
remains with the intention to connect to the transformative qualities of the
heart. As we perform the asanas, we open to our own greatness, seeking
expression of our innermost resources and deepening our awareness of the body,
mind and spirit.
John te
aches
that: "The poses in Anusara are
considered to be 'heart-oriented', and are expressed from inside out.
Instead of trying to control the body and mind from the outside, postures
originate from a deep artistic feeling inside. There is an emphasis on
remembering the spiritual purpose of hatha yoga which includes reconnecting
with our innate goodness and beauty. and expressing ourselves from that divine
place...In each pose we artistically offer our individual light and
unique music to the flow of life."

Yoga is very effective as a therapy for injuries or chronic body problems.
It combines the science of bio-mechanics with a concise set of principles of
physical alignment, that apply to everyday poses and to everyday activities, to
create a balanced energetic action in the performance of asana and help provide
physical stability that is both strong and joyfully
expansive.
