The Instructor
On
his web site www.anusara.com , John Friend
defines the role of Anusara instructors as follows:
"Anusara yoga teachers practice
looking for the good in things, especially in themselves and their students.
Anusara teachers do not try to "fix" or "correct" students,
instead they help enhance and reveal the beauty and divine qualities that are
already present in the student's poses. One of the other key aspects of this
Tantric Philosophy is that we are all co-creators with Nature or the Supreme in
this life, and this creative freedom makes life fun, exciting and
inspiring."
Michael A. Delgado has studied with John
Friend for over six years. He is cu
rrently
an Affiliated Anusara Yoga instructor, registered with the Yoga
Alliance, and close to fulfilling the challenging certification requirements
outlined by John's instructor
program. His studies have included therapy training,
and over three hundred hours of weekend and weeklong sessions throughout the
country directly under John Friend. Additionally, Michael's training has
encompassed several of John's well-renowned certified instructors and philosophy
seminars.
As a
n enhancement to understanding the
physical aspects of yogic practice, Michael's background extends as far back
back as his pre-teen youth where he trained in Tae Kwon Do under Master S. Henry
Cho and later fulfilled
his Black Belt level of achievement under Master Joon Mo Nam, winning several
Gold Medals in annual New York State Championships and training youths and
adults for competition. Seeking additional knowledge of energy flows, Michael
also trained in Tai Chi Chuan for seven years under William CC Chen where he
learned sparring and push hand skills, performed in demonstrations at Madison
Square Garden, and competed in several Kung Fu tournaments.
An im
portant teaching contribution Michael feels he
brings to his
students is his educational background. Holding a BA and Masters from Fordham
University in Comparative Religions, his focus was on East/Asian Philosophies,
mythology and Jungian psychology. Michael's studies included years of course
work in Hindu/Yogic traditions, Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism, and Zen.
Finally,
after twenty five years of study, work and service with the Lakota people,
Michael completed his PhD in Theology with studies at Oxford and The Graduate
Theological Foundation writing about the significant contribution Native
American people bring to world spirituality.
As a grateful student of John Friend and a Certified
Personal Trainer (CPT) with the National Academy of Sports
Medicine, it is his sincerest desire to
bring these heartfelt teachings, along with the latest in biomechanical science,
into your Anusara experience.
Namaste,
